TFT attends and presents at the Conference on “Battery Recycling”

From February 3–5, 2026, Lukas Lödige from KIT and PhD Student in the Thin Film Technology group participated and contributed in the Conference on Battery Direct Recycling in Würzburg, hosted by Fraunhofer ISC.

The conference brought together leading experts to discuss recent advances, key challenges, and emerging strategies in direct and sustainable battery recycling.

It offered a broad overview of ongoing research and in particular, it featured presentations on the recovery of electrode coatings, while also addressing the relevance of removing and recovering electrolyte components.

TFT contributed with a poster :

“Thermal drying of electrolyte solvents for safe and efficient battery recycling”

  • Lukas Lödige, Johannes Dörr, Philip Scharfer, Wilhelm Schabel

The research at TFT focuses on the optimization of process sequencing and material streams during the drying of end-of-life battery cells.

The work highlights automated cell disassembly for sheet separation and drying to remove the electrolyte mixtures, aiming to improve process safety and efficiency.
